Girona, the City of the Four Rivers, has a population of just over 100,000 inhabitants. Thanks to its size, it is a human-scale city, offering all the advantages of a large city without the drawbacks that usually come with them. Its privileged geographical location makes it an ideal destination to visit all year round. It is close to the great metropolis of Barcelona, only 100 km away, as well as the French border, the Costa Brava, and the Pyrenees. It is well connected by both road and rail, and the airport is just 16 km from the city center.

On the route we propose, you will discover both its history and its legends.

We will take you on a journey through time, from the city’s foundation. We will walk along the Via Augusta and the city walls, passing through the Roman and Carolingian periods until reaching medieval Girona, where we will see the great splendor of those times reflected in its exquisite Romanesque monasteries, the Arab Baths, grand Gothic palaces, and above all, the Cathedral.

In the historic center, traveling back to the 9th century, we will visit the Jewish Quarter (“El Call”), which stretches through a labyrinth of cobbled streets that still preserve the important Jewish heritage of the city. The Aljama (Jewish community) of Girona was one of the most important in Spain, at one point making up a tenth of the population. Its most distinguished figure was Nahmanides, master of the Kabbalah.

Walking down Carrer de la Força, we will leave the Jewish Quarter behind and reach La Rambla, where we will encounter the Onyar River and its bridges, the most iconic being the Pont de les Peixateries Velles (Eiffel Bridge).
